MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Dear friends,
Are you ready for your close up? The coaching profession is in the spotlight more often as coaching becomes better known, and the International Coach Federation heats up its public relations campaign.
The ICF offers us PR tips and suggestions that our chapter will be putting to good use, and that might even give a little boost to your practice.
You'll find this valuable info on our PR page at http://www.nwcoaches.org/pr_for_coaches.
While you're there, take a peek at a recent article on coaching that appeared in the NY Times, as well as a video segment from The Today Show that aired earlier this month.
Speaking of getting the word out, you'll want to be at our meetings to spread the word about YOUR business while you're enjoying up all the great programs we've got planned for you.
There's a place for members to distribute promo materials (business cards, flyers, etc.), and members are always welcome to mention their upcoming programs and special offers at the meetings during the announcements at the close of the evening.
See you at our next meeting!
Warmly,
Ronnie
Veronika Noize
Fellow Coaches;
2006 has been an exciting year for the NWCA to date and I want to invite all fellow coaches to our monthly meetings. If you have not had the opportunity to attend in awhile, you are missing out. We have had some really wonderful and informative speakers each month providing information that you can put to use in your practice immediately. I comment every month about how many new members we welcome at each meeting. It's exciting to say the least.
I feel the energy and excitement of spending a little time with my fellow coaches at every meeting. We are at the University Club for this month only so come see what you're missing!!
NWCA MEMBERSHIP CONNECTIONS
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Clarify those connections, Please." In a recent article in Selling Power magazine, it stated the crucial qualifying stage of any selling situation always involves clarifying. In a post-mortem sales scenario, when the sale is lost and reflection time crashes in, invariably the fickle finger of fate points to a missed understanding or failure to clarify. One simple remedy: "What this means is..." and feedback to the coach- client or potential customer what your understanding is via a clarifying question or restatement.

How many times does a good coach pepper his/her coaching practice with that all important phrase, "What this means is..." and ever so attentively read the nuanced response for clues? At NWCA, each monthly meeting provides ample opportunity for coaches both new and seasoned to delve more deeply into unexplored realms of another coach's world. Mastery is the goal and exploration is the process.

On May 9th at the University Club, explore your connections with another coach and clarify some aspect, some technique that you are curious about. Then just at the moment you feel smug and confident, go ahead and pop the clarifying question: "What this means is..." and see how you scored.

After 15 years in the industry, Sheila started her own marketing and advertising firm and over a period of 13 years handled a diverse roster of clients including Fortune 500 companies and start-up businesses. She moved back to Portland with her husband Loren in 2002, and became a member of the Portland Chapter of SCORE, currently a top-ranking chapter of nearly 400 SCORE chapters nationwide in services provided to small businesses. As an entrepreneur, Sheila offers experience, knowledge and caveats to those starting their own ventures.

HAVE YOU ADDED A WEBSITE?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Often when new coaches join NW Coaches, they don't yet have a website. If you are one of those people, you'll want to contact me when your new website is up so that I can add it to your NWCA website profile.
