MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Bob Renggli Core Competency #8: Creating Awareness
One of the biggest blockages to new growth today in our clients is the fixation at one level of awareness and the converse inability to initiate movement without the aid of a skillful coach. Einstein said it best: " Problems cannot be solved at the same level of awareness that created them." In this endeavor, coaching is quite distinct from therapy in that the focus is forward rather than digging into the past.
Competency #8 is the ability to integrate and accurately evaluate multiple sources of information. In our computer age of 24/7 information avalanche, people in every walk of life get "snowed-under" and frozen to a literal "stand-still" by all the options and become unable to sort them out or plot a plan of action. "Awareness coaches" to the rescue at every conceivable station in life, becomes the clear calling of our noble profession.
Attending to the client's agenda, never changing that agenda without the client's input and never becoming attached to a particular outcome or solution are the cardinal hallmarks of this essential competency. And finally, the coach will employ #6 Powerful Questioning tools instead of the lure of substituting assessments or standard coaching exercises in order to more "efficiently fix" the client's challenge quickly and thereby thwart the true coaching process.
Please come join the always informal and popular SUMMER SIZZLER August 12th in Tualatin and resolve to practice and dialogue on the tips, tools and techniques that your fellow coaches are practicing to CREATE NEW AWARENESSES in their clients.
Bob Renggli
NWCA 2008 President
